Muratie Johanna Pinot Noir Rosè 2019

This tantalizing wine starts with a melange of tropical fruits on the nose, followed by tart pomegranate ruby flavours and cranberries on the palate. With its lingering crisp, dry finish this wine is synonymous with warm summer days and leisurely relaxation

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Vineyard: Produced from Pinot Noir grapes from vines planted at 280m above sea-level yielding 8 tonnes per hectare.

Muratie Melck`s Blended Red 2015

Where most of the wines in the portfolio are special occasion wines, this medium-bodied blend is intended for everyday enjoyment. However, it too is sourced entirely from the estate, and while unpretentious it is well-crafted with its soft tannins, juicy black fruit and hints of warm spice and chocolate from careful wooding.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Vineyard: The blend constitutes a selection of various vineyards on the wine estate.

Muratie Lauens Campher 2018

For all its freshness, elegance and focus, the wine’s flavours are complex and intense, ranging from bright lemon, fresh pineapple and juicy nectarine to more concentrated lime marmalade as well as caramel and cream (from barrel fermentation and 11 months of maturation in mostly older French

oak). The initial impression is floral (heady honeysuckle) but the finish is spicy (there’s even a pinch of white pepper), with great persistence promising enjoyment over at least five years.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 39% Chenin Blanc, 36% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% Verdelho, 6% Viognier

Vineyard: This wine is made from meticulously sourced grapes from different sites and slopes. Vineyards vary in age from 10 – 15 years old. The Chenin Blanc is from an old north facing bush vine block with low yields and good fruit purity.

Vinification: Medium bodied, with a sturdy backbone, this uniquely South African white blend is made in Campher’s honour, combining predominantly Chenin Blanc (39%) with smaller amounts of Sauvignon Blanc (36%), Verdehlo (19%), and Viognier (6%). Meticulously blended after judicious oaking in a combination of new and older French barrels (11 months), it’s truly a labour of love..

Muratie Isabella Chardonnay 2018

In this fresh and elegant wine with its peach-blossom fragrance, the aim is to evoke those bedtime butterfly kisses of their beautiful baby girl, so the oaking (10 months in this case) is subtle, serving only to spice the stone fruit, melon and citrus flavours with hints of hazelnuts and vanilla cream. It’s beautifully delicate and understated, with a pure, slightly piquant and lingering ‘mineral’ finish promising great charm well beyond the toddler years.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay

Vineyard: The grapes were hand harvested before being whole-bunch pressed. The free run juice is chilled to about 8 ̊ Celsius for 2 days. The clear juice is then taken off and pumped into 500 litre barrels where it undergoes natural fermentation.

Vinification: After the alcoholic fermentation the wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation and spent 10 months in wood before being racked and blended. It was then stabilised before it was bottled and labelled.

Alc. 14.06% vol.

Residual sugar: 3.0g/l

Muratie Alberta Annemarie Merlot 2016

Redolent of lusciously ripe plums in its youth, this wine has complex layers of cocoa, cinnamon and toasted hazelnut (from 12 months in French oak barrels, one-third new) that come to the fore over time. Its appealing sweetness and full-bodied richness are balanced by fresh acidity and a pinch of mixed herbs. Made in a soft and approachable style for early enjoyment, it nonetheless has enough backbone and plenty of length on the finish to suggest that it won’t disappoint those who wish to cellar it for 5 years.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 100% Merlot

Vineyard: The Muratie Merlot was harvested from three different blocks on the estate. The vines were planted in 1990 and 1992. Two of the blocks are North West facing and the third North. The elevation of the vines is at 280m above sea level. The Table Mountain sandstone soil provides good moisture to these dry-land vineyards. All the vines are planted on Richter 99 rootstocks.

Vinification: The grapes were handpicked, yielding 4.5 tons per hectare. They were then crushed, destalked and pumped into traditional open fermenters. Pump-overs and punch downs were done at regular intervals. The wine was matured in French oak barrels (33% new) for 12 months.

Alc. 14.49% vol.

Muratie Ronnie Melck Shiraz 2016

A polished wine, from its silky tannins to its dark wood spice, it oozes black plum and mulberry fruit that is succulent without being jammy. There are violets on the nose, dark chocolate too, but lasting impressions are of pleasingly savoury, from black pepper to smoked meats. Soft and voluptuous enough to be enjoyed on release, it has the structure to start reaching its full potential after about five years.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 100% Shiraz

Vineyard: The vineyards yield approximately 7 tons per Hectare. The grapes are handpicked at optimum ripeness, then gently crushed and destalked.

Vinification: The wine is made in traditional open fermenters which enable plunging and pump overs to be done with

ease. The wine is matured for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels.

Muratie Martin Melck Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Anna Catherina’s second name means ‘purity’, a virtue Melck valued, and one that this Simonsberg Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon seeks to express with its concentrated dark fruit (black cherries, berries and plums) underscored by fresh acidity and framed by cedar wood and spice from 20 months in French oak (30% new). Sourced from three different blocks on the estate, it’s opulent yet polished, a wine of integration, balance and great length, true to its terroir just as Melck stayed true to his beliefs.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard: The Muratie Cabernet Sauvignon was made from three different blocks on the estate. The vines were planted in 1981, 1993 and 1998. All the vineyards are North West facing and at an elevation of 260m above sea level. The root stocks are Richter 101 and 114.

Vinification: The grapes were handpicked yielding 6 tons per hectare. They were then crushed, destalked and pumped into a combination of stainless steel and open fermenters. A controlled fermentation was ensured and regular pump-overs and punch-downs were done. Matured in 60% new French Oak for 20 months. The fruit, tannin structure and fine acidity indicate a wine of balance and finesse reflective of the Simonsberg terroir.

Muratie Ansela van de Caab 2016

Rich and velvety, this is a tightly knit wine built to last yet accessible now thanks to its well-rounded tannins. Concentrated dark fruits (blackcurrants, cassis) are lifted by a slight tealeaf herbaceousness and plenty of wood spice (sandalwood, cigar box, graphite). There are also some savoury hints of olive tapenade, particularly on the lingering finish, which combined with fresh acid balance suggest improvement in bottle for at least a decade.

Origin: Stellenbosch

Grape Variety: 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot

Vineyard: The varietals for our Ansela were all hand harvested, sorted, crushed, destalked and fermented in classic open fermenters.

Vinification: Its components (57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot) were individually hand-harvested, sorted, crushed and destalked prior to fermentation in classic open fermenters, and only after 16 months of barrel maturation were they tasted and selected for blending. The assembled wine was then returned to French oak (50% new) for a further six months to ensure a good marriage and secure future.
