Villa Antinori Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Villa Antinori shows an intense ruby red color, and its nose is a complex one: there is red fruit,  cherries and plums along with berry fruit and mint, well balanced with the sensations of spices and vanilla from the oak barrels. The palate is round and is endowed with supple and velvety tannins as well as a long and savory finish and aftertaste.

The grapes were given a soft destemming and pressing and the must then went into temperature-controlled fermentation tanks where it first  fermented for five to seven days and then remained on its skins for a further eight to twelve day period. The fermentation of the Cabernet, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot grapes never exceeded 82° Fahrenheit (28° centigrade) to favor the extraction of color and soft tannins. In the case of the Syrah and Merlot, temperatures remained at 77° Fahrenheit (25° centigrade) to best conserve aroma. The wine was put  through a complete malolactic fermentation during the months of October and November, and it then went into small barrels coopered from French, Hungarian, and American oak, where it aged for approximately a year.

The 2015 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with occasional but abundant rainfall; springtime, warm and without any return of lower temperatures, assisted the vines in a regular growth thanks as well to the reserves of ground water accumulated during the winter. The summer season, warm and dry, favored a gradual but balanced period of ripening, and the grapes, at harvest time, showed not only a proper sugar content but excellent structuring and aromatic elements as well. The picking began with the Merlot and Syrah during the first week of September and continued in mid-September with the Petit Verdot and Sangiovese.

Peppoli Chianti Classico DOCG 2016

The 2016 Pèppoli is ruby red in color. Intensely fruity notes of cherries and red currants dominate on the nose along with integrated hints of violets and a light touch of toasted oak. The palate, fresh and savory with supple tannins, shows a finish and aftertaste which recall the sensations first felt on the nose.

Vinification:

The grapes, picked separately, variety by variety, were destemmed and pressed and the must transferred into stainless steel fermenting tanks. The fermentation took place at temperatures maintained between 79° and 82° Fahrenheit (26-28° centigrade) to fully bring out the aromatic patrimony of the crop and conserve the fruity and floral notes of the different varieties; the period of skin contact lasted 8-10 days for the Sangiovese and fifteen days for the complementary varieties, and the extraction was carried out with delicate techniques aimed at producing soft and polished tannins. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, which terminated by the end of the year for all of the different varieties, the wine went into wood, where it aged for approximately nine months in large Slavonian oak casks and, for a small part of the total production, in stainless steel tanks. The bottling took place in December of 2017.

Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2014

Vinification:

The grapes were destemmed, given a soft pressing, and fermented for eight to ten days in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 77° Fahrenheit (25° centigrade) to preserve as much as possible the aromatic components. After the malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine went into large oak casks, where it began a twelve month period of aging.

Historical data:

After several years of experimentation in the vineyards to produce a wine of high quality level, this Rosso di Montalcino began to be produced in 2012 and it joined the other two wines of the estate, the Brunello Pian della Vigna and the Brunello Riserva Vignaferrovia. The Pian delle Vigne estate is located 3. 5 miles (six kilometres) to the south of Montalcino above the Orcia river valley, and takes its name from a typical railroad station located within the confines of the property. The estate consists of approximately 460 acres (184 hectares) of land, with some 160 acres (65 hectares) planted to vines. The vineyards, with an exposure which is principally to the southeast, are situated at an altitude between 430 and 660 feet (130-200 meters) above sea level.

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2012

Vinification:

A careful and precise selection of the grape bunches, carried out both in the vineyard and in the cellar, guaranteed the arrival for fermentation of grapes which were capable of expressing the unique character of a territory such as Montalcino. After a delicate destemming, the grapes were lightly pressed; the must then went into stainless steel tanks where it fermented at a temperature of 82° Fahrenheit (28° centigrade) and remained in contact with its skins for a total period of three weeks. Once in oak casks with a capacity between 800 and 2100 gallons (3000-8000 liters), the wine was put through a complete malolactic fermentation and began its process of oak aging. After approximately 24 months in oak, the wine left its casks and began its period of pre-lease bottle aging in the month of May, 2016.

Historical data:

The Pian delle Vigne estate, located approximately four miles (six kilometers) from the town of Montalcino, takes its name from a characteristic 19th century railroad station located on the estate’s grounds. The property consist of some 460 total acres (184 hectares), 160 of which (65 hectares) are planted to vines in vineyards with a southeastern exposure at 425 feet (130 meters) above sea level. Pian della Vigne has followed the philosophy of aging in large casks which preserves the exceptional integrity of the fruit of the Sangiovese grape and endows Brunello with its characteristics vibrant elegance. The estate has belonged to the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first Pian delle Vigne vintage.

Tignanello Toscana IGT 2015

Tasting notes:

The 2015 Tignanello is a very intense ruby red in color. On the nose, the notes of ripe red fruit, together with cassis and blackberries, are in perfect balance with the hints of chocolate and liquorice. The palate is rich, ample, and vibrant and is endowed with lively and silky tannins which give a great complexity and an important length to the finish and aftertaste.

Vinification:

The 2015 vintage, regular in its various phases, will be remembered for the harvesting of completely ripe and healthy grapes thanks to the highly favorable weather during the entire growing season.

Despite this fact, the level of attention remained very high both in the vineyard during picking operations and in the cellar when the crop arrived; here the selection of the grapes and the first phases of their working gave an important impetus to a further optimization of quality.

During the fermentation in conical fermentation tanks, the must was macerated on the grape skins with extreme care and attention to the freshness of the aromas, the extraction of color, and a management of the tannins aimed at suppleness and elegance. The running of the wine off its skins took place only after careful daily tastings. Once the wine was separated from its skins, it went into oak barrels for a malolactic fermentation which further elevated the finesse and the complexity of the aromas. The aging process then began, fourteen to sixteen months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, some new and others already used once previously. The various lots, fermented and aged variety by variety, were then blended together a few months before being bottled. The wine, based principally on Sangiovese supplemented by a small part of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, was given a further twelve month period of bottle aging before commercial release.
