Groote Post Unwooded Chardonnay 2019

Grapefruit and citrus flavors are in abundance on the nose and palate. This vintage has fresh acidity, beautiful minerality, vibrant, racy and zesty structure.

Ageing potential: This vintage has a full and concentrated structure with very good ageing potential.

In the cellar: Our first vintage since 1999 not using the same Chardonnay sites. First Substantial fruit from our new site was added to this 2018 Unwooded Chardonnay. It immediately made a contribution to the variation and complexity of this final blend. Overall even with the drought, the chardonnay vineyards produced beautiful ripe and healthy fruit.  During the crushing and fermentation kept at low temperatures. Fermentation is only done in stainless steel tanks, no wood is added. We have the wine on the lees for up to 3 months depending on the vintage.

Groote Post Sauvignon Blanc 2019

In the cellar: The challenge in the cellar was to capture the full potential of each batch of grapes. After sorting, destemming and crushing, 50% of the grapes had skin contact for 6 to 12 hours. Only the free-run juice were used for this wine. The wine was fermented in stainless steal tanks and left on the lees for 2 months.

Groote Post Merlot 2017

Plum and mulberry flavours are prominent on the nose, supported by subtle hints of mint, resulting in a wonderful flavour spectrum. Fruit and acidity are well balanced on the palate and give this wine complexity and length.

In the cellar: The grapes were carefully selected over the sorting table. The grapes had cold maceration for 2 days in stainless steel and open tanks. The juice was pumped over and the cap punched down three to four times a day. The juice was left on the skins for 14 days after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and ageing took place in 300L French Oak barrels, 35% new wood, 50% 2nd fill and 15% 3rd fill.

Groote Post Shiraz 2017

This vintage displays white pepper and violets, which are typical of our region. Smokey spice and saltiness fill the palate. This is an elegant Shiraz with well rounded tannins that linger.

In the cellar: Fermentation is split between using open top tanks for punching down the skin cap and closed stainless steel tanks for pumping the juice over the skins. The fermenting grapes underwent maceration for 2 weeks. The goal was to achieve a complex and versatile Shiraz. The wine matured for 14 months in 300L oak barrels of which 25% were new oak and 75% older barrels. 10% American oak and 90% French.

Groote Post Kapokberg Pinot Noir 2015

Ripe, red fruit upfront on the nose with early morning farmyard blossoms. The palate is voluptuous and beautiful cherry notes with silky oak tannins support the structure on the finish.
